Rhyslyn carpark is located near the
village of
Pontrhydyfen and has great access to some of the walks and cycle routes. Both the Rhyslyn Walk and the Penrhys Trail can be started from here and you can also join the low level cycle route ‘Rheilffordd’ from the car park. With breathtaking scenery and picnic benches it’s the ideal location to stop off on your visit to Afan Forest Park.
A short walk from the car park is a hidden gem in the name of Kanji Wood. Kanji Wood, a Japanese garden is a wonderful place to relax in, and represents the strong bond between
Wales's Afan Forest Park and
Japan. Kanji one of the three styles of writing used in the Japanese language, are Chinese characters or pictograms, which were first introduced to
Japan in the fifth century.
In Kanji Wood you can see the characters carved in wood for Human, Life and
Forest, this shows how 'looking after our forests is crucial to the future of humankind'.
