In 2007 as part of a public vote a proposed cycle route from Aberavon Seafront to Afan Forest Park was successful in receiving funding from the Big Lottery Fund. The successful scheme part of the Connect2 project aims to create safe, attractive footpaths and cycle paths between Port Talbot, Cwmafan, Pontrhydyfen and the popular Afan Forest Park, connecting local people to their shops, schools, work and green spaces. The Connect2 project plans to create a network of paths and bridges away from the traffic to make it easier for local people and visitors alike to travel between these places by foot or bike. The paths will continue to Afan Forest Park and beyond and will also connect people to local facilities in the town and to the sea front.
